I didn't for these examples, using just the default settings for validation purposes. The more effort you put into Terragen the better your results will be.
I haven't had a chance to attempt a match yet, and you can see the less-than-ideal result:Īnyway, if you're familiar with Terragen, cubic panoramas (or skyboxes), alpha masks and Stellarium landscapes then it should be easy for you to try this yourself. If you don't your clouds will look unnatural near the horizon. They also don't look too good at night because they are completely black and, frankly, the night sky in Stellarium is much too light (and too blue, but that's another issue).Īnother thing you need to be aware of is trying to get the sky, haze and light decay in Terragen to match Stellarium's midday sky gradient. There are some problems with this technique, however. The final step was combining the two images in the paint program and saving to PNG format with the alpha mask. HDR Shop was then used to transform both cubic cross images to lat/lon (spherical). The panorama shows the research village and the Kongsfjord from the atmospheric observatory which is run by the Alfred-Wegener-Institute and the Institut Polaire Paul-Emile Victor.
